Alia Inspects Galleria Park, Highlights Job Creation Potential
The redevelopment of the former Macafa Park into Galleria Park in Makurdi is expected to create employment opportunities, stimulate commercial activities and enhance the use of public assets, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has said.
The Governor stated this during
an inspection of the ongoing construction at the facility along Atom Kpera
Road, near Modern Market Junction, Ankpa Quarters, Makurdi.
He explained that the project
reflects his administration’s commitment to transforming underutilised
government properties into productive ventures capable of generating economic
value, supporting businesses and improving livelihoods.
According to him, Galleria Park
is being developed as a recreational and commercial centre that will provide
residents with a modern, secure and family-friendly environment for leisure,
entertainment and business activities.
The Governor noted that, beyond
its recreational appeal, the facility holds significant potential for job
creation, particularly for young people, as well as for small-scale
entrepreneurs, artisans, service providers and other businesses that could
emerge around its operations.
He added that the development
would expand access to recreational and lifestyle services within Benue State,
offering residents opportunities to enjoy such facilities locally rather than
travel to Abuja and other major cities for similar experiences.
During the inspection, Alia
expressed satisfaction with the quality of work at the site and commended the
Korean artisans involved in the project. He encouraged Benue youths to take
advantage of the artisans’ presence to acquire technical skills and practical
knowledge that could enhance their employability and open up opportunities for
self-reliance.
The Governor emphasised that
public assets should be put to productive use to support economic growth,
create value and deliver benefits to the people. He said the redevelopment of
the former Macafa Park was consistent with this approach, with the aim of
turning the facility into a functional centre for recreation and commerce.
Upon completion, Galleria Park is
expected to contribute to Makurdi’s recreational and commercial landscape, with
potential benefits for tourism, entertainment, hospitality and small
businesses. Its operations could also create opportunities for local suppliers
and service providers while attracting more economic activity to the
surrounding area.
The project forms part of broader
efforts by the Benue State Government to revitalise public assets, expand
opportunities for employment and enterprise, and encourage economic activities
across the state.
