BENSHIA Enrolls 88.576 Vulnerable Residents for Free Healthcare
The Benue State Health Insurance Agency (BNSHIA) has enrolled 88,576 vulnerable residents, including 19,324 internally displaced persons (IDPs) and 155 children with special needs, for free healthcare services under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
The enrolment forms part of the Agency’s efforts to expand health insurance coverage and ensure access to affordable, quality healthcare across Benue State.
BNSHIA commenced the enrolment of staff of Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, formerly Benue State University, on 25 November 2025. The exercise is ongoing alongside the Agency’s programme for self-employed residents, which began in 2022.
In line with the law establishing the state health insurance scheme, the Agency is working towards achieving universal health coverage for residents across the public and private sectors, including self-employed and unemployed persons.
Associations, organised groups, individuals, political officeholders, and philanthropists can participate by enrolling themselves or sponsoring the health insurance premiums of vulnerable persons and groups.
The Agency explained that its benefit package allows enrollees to access healthcare services at facilities of their choice, with special provisions for vulnerable residents who cannot afford medical expenses.
For enquiries and enrolment, residents can call 09062547094, 07067766607, or 07063185156; visit the BNSHIA Head Office at No. 9 Ogiri Oko Road, Old GRA, Makurdi; email infodesk@bnshia.be.gov.ng; or visit www.bnshia.be.gov.ng.
The initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to expanding access to healthcare and protecting vulnerable residents from the financial burden of medical treatment.
