Hon. Chief Iorpev Seeks Stronger Collaboration with Head of Service on Civil Service Reforms
Hon. Iorpev emphasised the importance of a more coordinated and clearly defined administrative structure that would enable information officers to discharge their responsibilities effectively and contribute meaningfully to government communication, public enlightenment and information management.

The Benue State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Chief Solomon Iorpev, has paid a courtesy visit to the Head of the Benue State Civil Service, Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ihu, to strengthen institutional collaboration and address key administrative issues affecting the effective performance of information officers across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

The visit provided an opportunity for both parties to deliberate on critical matters aimed at improving the working conditions, professional recognition and operational effectiveness of information officers within the state civil service.

Among the key issues discussed were the review of weigh in allowances for information officers, the full domestication of the Directorate Cadre for information officers across all MDAs and the harmonisation of departmental nomenclatures to eliminate duplication, ambiguity and potential conflicts in roles and responsibilities.

Hon. Iorpev emphasised the importance of a more coordinated and clearly defined administrative structure that would enable information officers to discharge their responsibilities effectively and contribute meaningfully to government communication, public enlightenment and information management.

The proposed domestication of the full Directorate Cadre is expected to strengthen the professional standing of information officers across government institutions, while addressing inconsistencies in their career structure and ensuring greater uniformity in the administration of information-related functions.

The discussions also highlighted the need for appropriate departmental nomenclatures that clearly distinguish the functions of various units, promote institutional harmony and establish clear lines of responsibility. Such measures are considered essential to improving coordination, accountability and efficiency in public service delivery.

The Commissioner and his team expressed optimism that addressing these concerns through sustained engagement and collaboration with the Office of the Head of Service would foster a more professional, effective and responsive civil service in Benue State.

They further expressed confidence that the successful resolution of the issues raised would enhance the visibility, reliability and overall performance of the state civil service, particularly in the discharge of its information and public communication responsibilities.

The visit underscores the Ministry of Information and Orientation’s commitment to constructive engagement with relevant government institutions in advancing administrative reforms, strengthening professional capacity and promoting a more efficient and service-oriented civil service for the benefit of the people of

Benue State.
